Canon has been quite busy lately. Between new patents, the iconic brand is also working on some new lens and camera releases.
According to the always-useful website Canon Rumors, Canon is working on announcements for two new cameras and two new lenses.
The cameras will be the much-anticipated EOS R8 full-frame mirrorless camera and the EOS R50 camera with an APS-C sensor.
As for the lenses, Canon fans can soon look forward to a new 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM lens that we already covered recently as a rumored February release, and a new RF-S 55-210mm f/5-7.1 IS STM lens model.
The specific details of specs and features for these lenses and cameras are a bit light on the ground so far but from what’s been floating around, the Canon R8 will retail for roughly $1,499 (body only) and for $1,699 with the RF 24-50mm lens included.
For a full-frame camera, this is a notably low price, especially for a new-release model from a brand like Canon.
The R8 will probably have a range of specs and features that place it right between Canon’s existing R7 and R10 models, but it might also include a few new features.
As for the EOS R50, it’s going to be a budget APS-C camera that’s rumored to be nicely priced at $679. Its price will repordely bump up to $1,029 with RF-S 18-45mm f/4.5-6.3 and RF-S 55-210mm f/5.7-7.1 IS STM lenses included with the body.
The above price range for the EOS R50 sounds like a great deal given the essential specs that we can expect from this camera model. What’s more, the lenses are nearly sure to be good performers for a broad range of photography scenarios.
Canon’s RF 24-50mm lens is particularly worth noting here for a moment. As we described in an earlier report, its focal range makes this lens extremely versatile for a broad range of essential video and photo uses. Â
Furthermore, its reputed compact size will make it especially convenient for street photography. We can’t be sure about the exact price of the RF 24-50mm lens, but we’re guessing that it will be affordably priced.
The RF-24-50 might also turn into a possible starting point for a whole renaissance of new compact, budget zoom and prime lenses from Canon.
We’ll report more as the CP+ camera and video equipment event in Japan unfolds over the coming days and weeks.Â
