Beer Review: Black Butte Porter from Deschutes Brewery

The other day I decided to sit down and crack open a bottle of Black Butte Porter by Deschutes Brewery in Oregon.

First off let me say that I drink a lot of porters and I am a big fan of the style. I’m used to drinking Edmund Fitzgerald by Great Lakes Brewing Company and the creatively named “Founders Porter” by Founders Brewing Company. Both of those beers are great examples of the style – truly tough acts to follow, and the Black Butte Porter is right up there with them. It’s a great beer from start to finish.

The first thing I noticed when I cracked it open and poured it into a pint glass was how awesome it smelled. The same aroma of chocolate and coffee that all porters should have. The beer pours dark and with a nice head. It felt smooth and went down the hatch very easily.

Overall, I really liked this beer and would absolutely recommend it to anyone looking for a good porter and true example of the style.
