50 Shades Of Shut The Hell Up

I won’t lie to you and say that I have an extra valid opinion because I’ve read the book; I haven’t. When I first heard of this book, I filed it away under the same category as the “Twilight” series. Something that didn’t interest me in the least. However, with the release of the movie and the onset of the never ending chatter about it, I just want to, as usual, make my opinion loud and clear.

To begin with, I’m not a fan of social crazes. I was into the whole zombie thing back in 2008 before “The Walking Dead” even hit the air. Then the social mob took over and did the same thing with zombies that it had done to vampires and werewolves. I’m not saying I’m hardcore against conformity, but I prefer to stray from the herd.

As for this “50 Shades of Grey” bullshit…

I can’t give an educated, well informed opinion on it, as I haven’t read it. But I can say, I’m starting to get really damn sick of it. Let’s highlight my main problems with it, shall we?

      • Women dog men non-stop for watching porn, but this is ok?
      • Women are starting to get unrealistic expectations in the bedroom from it. And for you naysayers: My last ex was hardcore into it. And believe it or not, I have a limit.
      • This is only “romantic” (and I use that very loosely) because the guy is rich. If this were Billy-Bob in his doublewide on a dirt road – It’d be an episode of “Law & Order: SVU.”svu

      • As I’ve said, I haven’t read the books, but several people are claiming that it glorifies abusive relationships – I’m inclined to agree.
      • How did they get by with making this into a movie?! It’s not like this is some horror movie you can slap a “Rated R” sticker on and pass it along. The entire premise of this book/movie is SEX.

Then you got all the people who’ll preach that “sex is a natural part of life” or “slut shaming is bad.” And I agree with those, it is natural and we should all feel like we can practice it without judgment from others. However- this is public! What ever happened to the behind closed doors policy? How is a parent supposed to explain all this “50 Shades of Grey” bullshit that their kid hears? And people will say “well, just keep your kids away from it…” HOW? It’s everywhere!

If you enjoy this behavior in the bedroom, more power to ya. You’ll get no judgment from me. But what I am against is this piece of trash writing that’s now become a movie and gone viral. If you want to get down to the nitty-gritty of it, the story perpetuates the stereotype that women want a bad boy versus the good guy who’ll treat them right.

As someone who loves women and was raised to treat a woman right… I can’t grasp the allure. And for all you dudes out there whose better half has been getting “ideas” from the book – best of luck guys.
