WWE Road to Wrestlemania – Buffalo NY (3/1/15)

Those of you that follow me on Twitter know that I attended a WWE “Road to Wrestlemania” show this afternoon. Being this close to WWE’s biggest show of the year, live events can usually give fans a hint of two about what is yet to come on TV. I thought I would share the results and give a couple thoughts about what I saw.

Match 1: Bad News Barrett vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Dean Ambrose (Intercontinental Title Match)

Easily the match of the night! All three wrestled like they were in the Wrestlemania main event. Amazing way to start a show.

Winner: Bad News Barrett (But Dean Ambrose still has the belt)

Match 2: Tyler Breeze vs. Sin Cara

Another great match from two hungry NXT regulars. Before the show started they showed the Tyler Breeze music video so I had a feeling he would be on the show. After the match Sin Cara hugged and posed for pictures with a kid in the front row dressed in full Sin Cara gear from head to toe.

Winner: Sin Cara

Match 3: Los Matadores (with El Torito) vs. Curtis Axle and Heath Slater

This match was either a victim of having to follow two fantastic matches or Curtis  Axle and Heath Slater have no chemistry together, The only part of this match that anyone seemed to care about was El Torito getting involved at the end.

Winner: Los Matadores

Match 4: Chris Jericho vs. Luke Harper

This match started as a “Highlight Reel” segment. Y2J came out and said  that he hasn’t been around for a while but missed being in a WWE ring. He also said that this was his last match before going on tour with Fozzy. After a few jokes directed at HHH (Huge Horrible Honker), Stephanie and the “PG Era” Luke Harper came out to attack Jericho. After the match Jericho slowly left in what felt a lot like a goodbye.

Winner: Chris Jericho

After the match they played a video that had me alomst in tears. It was for a charity called “Connor’s Cure” that I would urge everyone to watch.

Match 5: Bray Wyatt vs. Randy Orton

I have to say that seeing everyone with their cell phone flashes out during Wyatt’s entrance was really cool! I was also surprised to hear the reaction Orton got from the crowd. The entire place went nuts for him. Great match with both guys giving it their all.

Winner: Randy Orton

Match 6: Summer Rae, Sasha Banks and Cameron vs. Natalya, Emma and Naomi

I learned that when given a reasonable amount of time and freedom to actually work, WWE’s divas can really put on a great match! This 6-Diva tag (as voted on by the fans in the arena) was really fast paced and full of actual wrestling. Good work by all involved!! It was also cool to see Sasha Banks wear the NXT woman’s title to the ring and be referred to as such by the ring announcer.

Winners: Natalya, Emma and Naomi

Match 7: The Miz and Damian Mizdow vs. The Usos

This match was done completely for laughs with Mizdow stealing the show. The Usos even had the ring announcers telling the crowd how much the WWE Network costs during the show. I don’t care what anyone says, The Miz is a master at getting the crowd against him!

Winners: The Usos

Main Event: Kane vs. Daniel Bryan (Street Fight)

I know Kane is a vetran and has been around since the “Attitude Era” but now that he wrestles in suit pants and doesnt wear a mask anymore he should not be main eventing WWE shows. Luckily Daniel Bryan is one of the most talented wrestlers on earth. Between his skill and the use of weapons the main event was actually a pretty good street fight. After the match Bryan led the crowd in a “Yes” chant that sent everyone home happy.

Winner: Daniel Bryan

All in all WWE put on a better than expected live event and I would absolutely recommend it to anyone that lives in a city they will soon be heading to!
